Why the Creator Marketing Council?
The move from the IAB SA Influencer Marketing Committee to the IAB SA Creator Marketing Council reflects a much bigger change in the industry itself.
“Influencer marketing” no longer adequately describes an ecosystem in which creators operate as content producers, media partners, entrepreneurs, brand collaborators and increasingly powerful drivers of discovery, trust and commerce. Creator marketing provides a broader umbrella for the relationship between brands, creators, platforms, agencies, media and technology, while allowing the Council to focus on the issues required for the sector to mature: measurement, disclosure, standards, paid amplification, sustainable creator businesses, technology, regulation and responsible brand-creator partnerships.
The change also aligns IAB South Africa more closely with the direction of the global IAB network. IAB now formally defines Creator Marketing as collaboration between brands, creators and influencers to produce content that drives awareness, consideration and sales, while the inaugural IAB Global Creator Week brings markets around the world together around the professionalisation, transparency, measurement and sustainable growth of the creator economy.
It is more than a name change. It reflects the industry’s move from influence as a tactic to creators as a serious, measurable and integrated part of modern marketing.
