Jaco Lintvelt >
Member of IAB SA Media Council
I’ve spent my career at the intersection of marketing technology, data, and media, linking them to commercial growth. Currently, a key focus is addressing our industry's measurement crisis. Ultimately, without a clear line to value, media will be less important, and even the smartest AI tools will fail to drive the bottom line.
This drive to elevate our industry's standards is exactly why I joined the IAB South Africa Media Council. I want to help shift our region’s digital narrative away from isolated metrics and toward quantitative, enabling, and profitable business growth. The real value of serving on this Council is our collective power to collaborate with other councils and build commercial frameworks with industry that help CMOs, CEOs, and CFOs drive systemic efficiency and future-proof their companies.
When I’m not talking about work, I enjoy hanging out with my family or trying to perfect my weekend braai technique with friends.
Herman Degener >
Head of IAB SA Media Council
I am a seasoned digital media strategist with over 15 years of experience, navigating the ever-evolving marketing and communications landscape. Based in Johannesburg, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the largest brands across both the private and public sectors, helping them unlock growth through smart, data-driven digital strategies.
In my current role as a Senior Digital Media Strategist at Lucid Performance, I focus on delivering meaningful impact through digital, social, and paid media strategy. My career journey has included leadership roles such as Business Unit Manager and Media Strategist at The MediaShop, as well as Digital Services Director at AVATAR South Africa—each experience shaping my ability to think both strategically and operationally in a fast-changing digital world.
I bring a holistic perspective to marketing, having worked across agency, client, and consulting environments. This allows me to bridge the gap between strategy and execution, developing solutions that are both innovative and measurable. My areas of expertise include digital transformation, social media strategy and analytics, paid media planning, and project management—often acting as a trusted advisor to brand and marketing teams.
Beyond my day-to-day work, I’m actively involved in shaping the industry. I serve as a member of the IAB Media Council and have contributed as a judge for the YouTube Awards 2025, reflecting my commitment to advancing digital media in South Africa. Being a member of the IAB SA Media Council also enables me to engage with my peers who are some of the brightest minds in our industry, as well as other council members within IAB SA.
At home I’m a proud Dad to my teenage daughter, who inspires me to be the best version of myself that I can be. And to keep the stress levels in check, you can find me on various mountain bike trails around Jozi on the weekends!
