Charis Coleman >
Member of IAB SA Education Council
I have 19 years' experience in the media industry covering print, radio, and digital. I started out as a community newspaper journalist before moving to commercial newspapers. I have always loved investigative journalism and getting ‘the story behind the story’. After a short some time in radio broadcasting, I moved back into the online field where I have spent most of my time working with local and international content teams to grow their digital brands and communities.
Before joining the MultiChoice Group in July 2021, I led the digital platforms for East Coast Radio, Jacaranda FM and Kaya FM, launched ZAlebs in 2010 - the first black-focused SA entertainment website – worked as managing editor for MSN Africa and Microsoft Biz4Afrika platforms, and spent time ghost writing and editing 4 published books,
At Multichoice, I head up Digital Content for Group Digital with a key focus on the management of the General Entertainment digital properties and working with the content, publishing and marketing teams across Group Digital, South Africa, Rest of Africa and SuperSport to drive alignment on content strategy and execution.
I started the TikTok incubator programme (Studio Reach) in July 2022, with the focus on nurturing young South African talent from previously disadvantaged backgrounds in the digital video space. This programme offers industry masterclasses and access to working with talent and production teams across the Multichoice group. The success of this programme has led to a second phase with the focus for 2023 being to expand into Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana.
